An anonymous person writes:

Sandie Shaw has been interviewed by the The Daily Telegraph (a right-leaning British broadsheet newspaper). She refers to El Moz in a rather frank interview, as follows:

"In the 1980s, there was an unexpected comeback. She was reinvented with the adoring help of Morrissey and the Smiths as the complicated, deadly Sixties female icon with bottle, class and a great voice who could overcome all obstacles. Morrissey identified with the sullen, feisty look in her eyes, the pain in her voice."

"It was a generous act on his part, helping me at the height of his success. I think he saw in me a kind of tragedy, the way I had it all and then lost it, that he couldn't imagine. He lived it out through me, hoping he wouldn't have to live it for real. I think he's now done a bit of wandering in the wilderness himself. I don't have much contact with him these days. I saw him the other week on the Jonathan Ross show. He looked like a Red Coat. Very unlike him to make a mistake with the symbolism of attire."

  • ...... Very unlike him to make a mistake with the symbolism of attire." Gosh that has to be THE most cutting things one of his ex divas has ever said against him. (again - anon trolls need not respond)

  • I suppose the most obvious curiosity is that Moz didn't help her at "the height of his career" as she claims here but rather within the nervous first steps of his career when the approach to Sandie was, by all accounts, incredibly nervous.

The Smiths were in their infancy and this skinny young thing from Manchester asked for a meeting. It's not like he asked her to do the backing vocals on Now My Heart Is Full.

But it doesn't matter - what I'd be interested to know is how much of an influence Morrissey has had on Sandie's career? Did the boost he gave her in 1984 actually save her career? Without that nod would she be re-releasing an album at the moment?

    I don't know - but it's a talking point.

  • uh excuse the confused mind of an American, but what is a Red Coat? Sounds like a communist term to me.

By the way, Sandy must be like 75 years old now,

and I apologize to the world for another 4 years of the Bush administration. It is a very sad day for Americans and the world. I will now remember the years of being in my 20s as mostly taken up by the Bush dictatorship.
    ugh

  • Cindy Chew could have been right but the point is morrissey actually looks smart and eccentric in this interview. As always. Has hair-colour attacked her brain?

  • We played a great part in your British childhood.
Please don't deride us now you think you have outgrown the pure honesty and childishness.
I am pretty sure, Morrissey did visit one of our sites during his childhood.
I don't know of any norther child that did not.
My guess would be Pwhelli (North Wales) probably around 1965.
Anyway, he's probably still got the badge somewhere and his picture with the monkey.
Don't get all stuck up your own arses and start condemning a great British institution of the day and pandering to the yanks, who of course had their "Disneyland" no doubt.
Anyway, remember the past has a part to play in all of our lives, whether you care to ignore it or not.

  • I just looked at the picture of Sandie in the article. She looks dreadful, real mum type.
