Talking on Radio 2 this afternoon, Dave Stewart revealed that the reformed Eurythmics intend to record a cover of 'Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me'.

He explained that band had covered the song at some of their live dates on their tour five years ago, and that they planned to record some of the more unusual covers that they have performed over the years for a forthcoming release.

  • in 1986, I transferred my obsession from Eurythmics to Morrissey. But they have always --despite "Peace" -- hold a special place in my heart.

  • I remember reading an interview with Dave Stewart where he said that he wanted LNIDTSLM played at his funeral. Why record a version that will inevitably be inferior to the original?

  • Back in the early nineties, he declared several times being fond of people such as Moz or Bowie. I think he actually saw himslef and the others as the real "Last Of The Famous International Playboys". So honestly, I think they might play a sincere nice cover.

But getting older, my memory could be playing some trick on me.

    Sweet F.A.
  • To clarify the news, Eurythmics (Dave and Annie) recorded a cover of "Last Night...." back in 1985. It was to be part of a soundtrack to a never-finished film project called "TVP" with George Harrison of The Beatles. Some of the other covers were: Bowie's "Fame", Beatles "Come Together", Doors "Hello, I Love You", Smokey Robinson's "My Girl" as performed by Mary Wells, (Changed to "My Guy"), Carl Carlton's "Everlasting Love", and Thunderclap Newman's "Something in the Air".

Eurythmics have not technically reformed or officially broken up. Annie does her solo thing, Dave does his. There is a campaign to remaster all of their back catalog and release them with bonus b-sides, and rare tracks. It was slated for Nov. 2 after numerous delays. But it's been put on hold for 2005 as Annie was not happy with the current project, apparently she felt she wasn't involved enough in the decisions on what to include. Most of the tracks mentioned from TVP should appear on the remasters, originally there were to be spread out amongst the 8 albums, but with the project on hold, how they appear remains to be seen.

Eurythmics did not perform "Last Night" 5 years ago on the Peace tour. They did play the record once on a European TV show that Dave was a guest on. I have about a 2 minute snippet of the song on MP3. It's really quite good, and a tease to hear.
