  • This is actually good, as are the other tracks. And the "Official" tag for the website - genius

  • Dean,

Well, lad, you're off to a good start! I like your voice, though it seems to be more in the background than the foreground. Bring it up front and let it blend with the music. I'll go back and listen to more. The few lyrics I heard sound nice and the music is not so bad either. Maybe just a little more practise on the instruments. Keep up the good work and try to take any criticism you're bound to get here and utilise it positively.

    Cheers,
    Truer Poetry

  • Which is a good thing. I like the distant sound of your voice, and you've got some high range, sounds sorta angelic, real nice.
The lyrics? Good! I really like the "wedding or funeral" bit. I read over most of them you had posted, and they're nice, but, well I guess it's a catch-22 when you're a Morrissey fan, and you share your lyrics with other Morrissey fans, but it's hard to borrow any phrases from the man and not get critisized for it.

Speaking of which, how can someone so young sing words so sad? Surely you don't know what life is about yet, do you?

  • Can't hear the actual songs Dean cos I'm having problems with my computer, but I think it's really cool that you're taking inspiration from The Smiths. You have superb taste!! Most teenagers I know only like Eamonn, Frankee, Will Young, Eminem et al - so it's great that you know the work of Moz/The Smiths. I hope you do really well.

  • Get in there son. You've got some talent. I hope Mozzer hears and gets you on his bill.

    Keep up the good work.

  • The Smiths/Morrissey influence is very, very clear, and there are some very similar lyrics, but jesus, at 15? Can you imagine what a terrible embarrassment most people's 15-year-old attempts at music-making would be? (Including some tremendously talented people.) And his voice is really lovely. Keep it up, certainly. I wouldn't be surprised to hear more about this kid.

  • sounds like what Belle & Sebastian would sound if they covered 'Everyday...'. its good- best cover of the song ive heard really. forget good for 15- its good period. a cover like this would be a welcome breath on the normally hellish tribute compilations of Morrissey's work.

  • Very very good. Instrumentation needs a bit of work. Lyrics are good (especially given your age) but keep improving them! The Morrissey influence is evident, both vocally and lyrically. The vocals are beautiful. You have A TON of potential! I hope to see a record on the shelves here in America in a few years! I'd buy it!

  • As a fellow musician, I think you have great talent Dean.

The only thing I'd say is try to invest your songs with more energy. Your "Everyday" seems to suck all of the energy out of the song, and some of your singing sounds a little like the Charlatans in that you seem to be trying hard to make your singing voice sound "mancunian."

Very nice songwriting though, and you clearly have a lot of talent. Try making your voice a little stronger and bring it more into the foreground. You have a certain quality of being able to show your vulnerability in your singing voice. That's a fantastic quality and if you can keep that while making your voice sound stronger and more distinctive, it would be fantastic. Remember to drop the over-egged mancunian thing though! That's really quite obvious!

Well, good look with the music. I just wanted to say "wasn't a joke" is my favourite - it's a very touching, beautiful song.

    Thanks

I'm not saying you WILL make it but you will definitely have a bigger chance in doing so than we do ;)
