  • What is the Jobriath release? Is it the greatest hits it Morrissey was supposed to do for Rhino Handmade?

I saw that the NY Dolls are putting out a DVD and CD of their Meltdown performance. I'm surprised it's not on Attack, but then maybe they had pre-existing contractual obligations.

I think so - "Lonely Planet Boy" was supposed to be the title of the Rhino compilation according to the discography [jobriath.org] at Jobriath.org (with the tracklisting: 1. Heartbeat 2. Morning Star Ship 3. Be Still 4. Space Clown 5. I'maman 6. Street Corner Love 7. Oh Lord I'm Bored 8. What a Pretty 9. Blow Away 10. Ecubyan 11. Inside 12. Earthling 13. Scumbag 14. Movie Queen 15. Dietrich-Fondyke.)

  • i still don't get why Moz is going to release the same song as Nancy on the same day. LMKY is a great song but it's only going to confuse people when 2 versions are released. oh well, it's his life to ruin his own way.

  • the bigger question is why this song has been chosen as the next single?? a nice song, i suppose, but it strikes me as a radio unfriendly momento killer. i thought for sure it would be " i like you " or " you know i couldn't last "

  • Can't wait for the James Maker single. Having seen him at the Move festival and been completely taken I suggest we all rush out and buy this one!

  • The Jobriath CD should be very interesting indeed - I've never had opportunity to explore his work, so I'll certainly be interested in this.

James Maker's single could be good.

I wasn't impressed with Remma's demo on the NME CD I'm afraid, but maybe it'll have been improved since then.

'Let Me Kiss You', I think, is going to be the last single from Quarry. If you look at the timescale, you had IBEH out in May, then over two months before Gang, then THREE months before LMKY. By those standards, any fourth single would HAVE to come out early in 2005, by which time the momentum from the album will be totally and utterly gone, or Xmas 2004, which seems unlikely since Moz must know he doesn't stand a huge chance with a fourth single in the Christmas charts which are generally lorded over by the cheese merchants (hello Sir Cliff, what hymn or prayer do you intend to butcher this year then?). No, I think we'll see LMKY backed with three, possibly four (if spread across two formats) b-sides, which also exhausts the remaining stock - Public Image, Slum Mums, Question Mark and Daddy's Voice. Maybe we'll get Candle if we're exceptionally lucky. But I can't see there being a fourth single at all.

  • Surely not? It would be extremely odd if Morrissey were to release all those singles/albums on the same day.

  • I don't beleive this for a second. Why is there no mention then of the release date for the Damian Dempsey record, due out in October according to the Attack tour press release?
    Anonymous -- Tuesday August 24 2004, @07:55PM (#120738)
  • I have a couple of ideas:

The Moz/Nancy single could be a split single.
    CD1: 1.Nancy version/2.Moz version/3.B-side
    CD2: 1.Moz version/2.Nancy version/3.B-side
This would quite probably count as one release for chart purposes if both discs were released as Morrissey and Nancy Sinatra, which would allow the sales to be amalgamated.

    The other Attack releases.
The artists involved are not big sellers. Therefore the cost of advertising each artist seperately when there are no guarantees on return could be prohibatively expensive. Releasing them all on one day could allow larger more eyecatching 'Morrissey presents/Attack Records Launch' type joint ads to be produced.

    Only a thought.

  • the number of listeners with no interest in Morrissey whatsoever who might like "Let Me Kiss You". As hardcore fans, we're calling for "Jesus" or "I Like You" etc., but I do think this track has potential beyond the Moz/Smiths fanbase. We'll see...

  • considering that he played vegas, anaheim, five nights in los angeles and another five in new york before "quarry" came out, i seriously doubt that scheduling another leg of this tour in support of a third single isn't the priority of anyone in morrissey's wet-behind-the-ears camp.
