  • A bit unfair to include Morrissey in an Eighties compilation. They were such apalling times for music really with the obvious exception(s). I'm not buying it, I'm trying to forget most of the tunes on that cd!

  • Why is this myth that it was a bad decade for music still being told?
And there are at least 8 great songs on this compilation. How many would there be on a random 60s or 70s compilation, or, God forbid, 90s compilation?

  • What on Earth is the point of this compilation? It doesn't make any sense, and just seems to be thrown together with neither theme, category or genre of any denomination.

Sure it's always great to hear 'Embarassment', 'Rat Race' or 'Running Up That Hill', and it's always a joy(maybe the wrong word) to hear Japan's 'Ghosts', but where does 'Suedehead' fit into this? Most of these tracks are pre-1985, wouldn't it have made more sense to have included a Smiths track?
I'm sure most people here consider The Smiths to be a product of the 80's, but I certainly have never thought of Morrissey as an 80's artist. Given that Morrissey's career is currently stronger than ever totally negates the song's inclusion here.

Tish and pish to you, foolish record compiling oafs.

  • There was a budget supermarket 80s compilation with 'Suedehead' on it, and a lot of the other tracks I think were on it too.

By the way, the 80s was a golden age for pop music. Even the bad stuff like Nik Kershaw, Thompson Twins, Level 42 etc had at least a bit of craft and musicianship to it, synth-overload notwithstanding, and boy bands like Duran Duran and Spandau were much better than the pop of today.

  • ...and by some sheer cosmic fluke, the only tracks I don't like are the last three tracks!
This means I can listen to it without skipping anything as I'll just be stopping it early.

  • Apart from 'Suedehead', there's two blinding tunes on this album.
If you happen to be fairly young and have not heard the following tunes before (or you suffer from chronic amnesia), give them a blast.

    The Proclaimers..Letter From America.
    Japan...Ghosts.

  • How can someone compile an 80's album and not have a Depeche Mode song listed?

No, just include forgettable old fodder like 'Chequered Love' by the photogenic but highly forgettable Kim Wilde. Along with the kitsch of Hot Chocolate and Sheena Easton.

The only decent songs on here are 'Vienna' by Ultravox and the very spooky and eery 'Ghosts' by Japan. If you're very young and you want a hint as to how magical British pop was in the early 80's buy this as a taster only.

Well that's easy! This is an EMI compilation, which means only EMI artists :)

Which is why I generally hate compilations like this. This one ain't too bad though, considering he limitation of only EMI artists...
