NANCY SINATRA - Let Me Kiss You, Billboard Singles Reviews

Since debuting on The Billboard Hot 100 in the mid-'60s, Nancy Sinatra has notched more than 20 entries, including two No. 1s ("These Boots Are Made for Walkin' " and "Somethin' Stupid," a duet with her father, Frank). After a too lengthy break from the chart, Sinatra may indeed return to it with the dreamy "Let Me Kiss You." Co-penned by Morrissey, who also provides backing vocals, the poignant "Kiss" is tailor-made for Sinatra. And with Morrissey's stamp, the song—which first appeared on his latest album, "You Are the Quarry"—also has its fair share of melancholia. Consider this chorus: "Close your eyes/And think of someone/You physically admire/And let me kiss you." Sinatra shines throughout. In fact, she one-ups Morrissey on his own song. Prepare yourself for her new album, due next month.—MP

  • I've been away on holiday so forgive me if I'm asking a question which has been recently discussed. Moz is releasing 'Let me kiss you' in September as his 3rd single right? If so, does this mean Nancy is not releasing her version in the UK or are both singles out at the same time?

  • Should this single get attention and have some radio/chart success, this could bode very well for the beginnings of the Attack label, following the success of "You Are The Quarry."

  • Yes, but it has to be said: what a horrible picture of Morrissey. He looks on loan from Madame Tussaud's... or, for that matter, the L.A. county morgue.

  • What a great photo!Morrissey looks so handsome in it.Nancy looks nice in it too.I`ve heard Nancy`s version and it`s pretty good I love how Morrissey does backing vocals on it.I can`t wait to get the single. The cover art is worth the price alone.

  • Once again, I have to say I think the cover art is pretty horrible. Agree with an above poster that the font is horrid and the picture isn't that great either. Not as bad as the YATQ front cover on the other hand - the worst of his career, bar 'Kill Uncle'. Even 'Maladjusted', poor as it is, didn't have such garish colours. I wonder who is designing these Attack covers. Still, good luck to Nancy - 'Let Me Kiss You' is a pretty good song, charming and understated, and I hope her version does well.

  • when we first heard about Nancy singing this song, we were given the impression that Morrissey had 'given' her the song, like he gave Shaw 'Please help the cause'. but it seems a bit odd that he went and recorded it too and released it this year (although I'm glad coz it's a lovely song).

it just means that it comes across as Nancy covering a very recent Morrissey song (in an almost identical musical style to the original) rather than her being given a song by Moz as were first led to believe, which almost seems a bit pointless... (although good luck to her).

  • I wonder what Morrissey thinks about Nancy's sex life. Could that be what he's pondering in the photo? I mean, she did sleep with Ronald Reagan after all. Isn't it ironic?

Nothing bad against Nancy, on the contrary, I admire her for her stamina. I hope I'm that fiesty when I'm an old granny!

  • ..he doesn't half have terrible taste in sunglasses!

Morrissey - "you should have gone to Specsavers!"

The cutting insults will continue until you do a proper UK tour - one that doesn't involve turning your nose up at the south of england...

  • Eamon versus Frankie, and now it's Mozza versus Nancy. Wonder if Moz and Nancy will both score no 1s - somehow I doubt it. My prediction for the UK - Moz no. 6 and Nancy 19.

  • I heard the let me kiss you version from Nancy and it sounds great. It is so clear that Nancy wants to to take Mozzer's sausage hostage, she wants to turn his pony ass into a stallion.
She looks pretty hot still, she must be pretty wild in the sack, after all she probably has some kinky boots collection.

  • She's Frank's daughter, she has snogged Elvis and now she's working with the wonderful Morrissey! I envy her so much! She is such a lucky lady. I only wish it were me!

I love the photo but don't know if it's ideal for a single cover. The font is, as others have said, awful... what's going on with Morrissey nowadays as far as sleeve art is concerned? It's like that "you are the quarry tour" t shirt with the dodgy lettering which reminds me of a Spangles wrapper. Having said that, it's also like the lettering on those trendy D and G vests which have been around this summer so maybe Morrissey is being terribly fashion forward with this new font.... only time will tell.
