Courtney, Franz, White Stripes amaze Fuji Rock crowd - NME.com

Morrissey was unable to appear at this year’s event, and, astonishingly his replacement was a Smiths covers band that left most confused, angry or amused.

  • I saw them on a trip to Dublin about two years ago, they were very good actually.

I don't know why the audience would have been upset - for crying out loud - it was common knowledge Mozzer had cancelled.

    Thank you and good bye.

  • Thank god it wasn't the Sweet and Sour Hooligans, they would have been booed off the stage if it were to happen.

  • Even though it was known Morrissey had cancelled something like this just rubs it in!

    Tribute bands are sad...

    ...because we must...
  • Having seen several of their gigs, and talking to a couple of them after the shows, I can honestly say hand on heart that these fine men are a credit to Morrissey & The Smiths...

They've been gigging for years - all through the bleakly unfashionable Smiths/Morrisey dark-ages of the late 90's - and deserve to be recognised for that at least.

I can see why some people would be a bit annoyed if they thought that they were there to see the real Morrissey & were fobbed off with a tribute, but I don't think that that was the case. Moz announced his withdrawal from the festival yonks ago.

These Charming Men would go down as a very palatible break from standard festival fodder in my book.

If you ever get a chance to see them, don't hesitate.

  • I've seen these lads play many many times, even in thoese dark days of the late 90's when they played to 15 people in Eamon Dorans in Dublin...
these boys are a class act, they create a great buzz and put a lot of effort and detail into the work they do.
fair play, if I knew mozzer wasn't going to appear at a festival and they turned up to play, I'd be delighted...FFS, the bootleg Beatles seem to play lots of festivals, why not a Smiths cover group.
