This Saturday (29th May 2004) at the Kings Cross Hotel, Sydney. Australia's most respected and longest running alternative night returns for a one off special. In fairness 'The Popscene Social' has been quiet for the last seven years, well okay, 18 months, but after promising for the whole of that 18 months to bring POPSCENE back to the weekend, at long last this Saturday we offer up the goods. The reason for our return? One word. MORRISSEY. Following a resurrection that would shatter Mel Gibson's beliefs, the rightly crowned Godfather of Indie returns and provokes not just the inevitable unconditional hero worship, but more so a renewed sense of reality in all of us. It's hard to imagine anyone not aware of the sheer god damn wrong-ness of this age. Be they as a victim of the wrongs or as a Pop Idol viewer, but how we've all slept through the evil. And how the Big Brothers recoiled in heart stopping dread when 'Irish Blood English Heart' landed at number two in the UK singles charts recently(aptly sandwiched between Eamon and Frankee no less). And how the leaders cursed the mass awakening of the pacified and caught their breath as Morrissey sold out all his scheduled gigs in minutes. Thank the Lord and F** you, of course we don't want Nickleback.

For the record 'You Are the Quarry' is completely ace. Even if it wasn't, how could it not be? No matter, it is and whilst it does take a little listening, once you've adjusted to the fact that life changing music IS still possible then the rewards are timeless.

This Saturday we'll be spinning all the Morrissey and Smiths you can handle along with the best music that Sydney and the world has to offer.

Hope you can make it.

    off topic but worth it,

    cheers Ray, England.
