Link: Morrissey Gets Direct On 'Quarry' - billboard.com, Mar. 16, 2004

Excerpt:

While dates are still being confirmed, a major tour is in the works in support of the album. Beginning May 24, Morrissey is also confirmed to appear for an entire week on CBS' "The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn." As previously reported, he will curate the U.K.'s Meltdown Festival, which runs from June 11-27.

  • Wow..... An entire week? That's interesting, considering he is playing Manc on the 22 of May, and there were rumors of a second show for the next night being added. Either way, that's still cutting it close. Well, the last time he did the show was pretty amazing, so I'll try to go again.

  • The Billboard review was pretty promising except for this odd little comparison:

"I Like You," one of the album's standout tracks....which is melodically reminiscent of Human League's synth-pop classic "Don't You Want Me,"

I don't see or hear any similarities between the two so far. I hope they didn't redo the track and make it too synthy-poppy. The Janice Long version was superb.

  • Hmmm, some of the lyrics paint a new, politically correct Moz. Not sure what to make of that. Also, possible pop sell-out alert? Hope not. I really like Blink 182 in addition to Morrissey, I hope Jerry Finn got the right balance. We shall see..........

  • I loved the fact that he actually sat down and spoke with Craig.
Craig is such a big fan of his, I'm not surprised he's going to have him on all week. I hope it's a new song each night.
Time to stock up on blank tapes and get the VCR queued!

  • Will he really be there for each of those 5 nights or will they just tape everything during one days shoot?

When he appeared on the show last time around, they just taped everything in one day and then during the second night the taped performace was just played back giving the illusion that he was actually there on both nights.

It'd be great if he could be there on each of those days since many disappointed Morrissey fans couldn't get in to see him the last time around... what with people cutting in line and a few certain people who just showed up at the last minute and walked right in, no waiting or anything.

  • Why couldn't Morrissey be on the Ed Sullivan Show? That was on CBS and it had Elvis and The Beatles on there.

    Why not Moz?

    Yea, that would be cool.

Anyone here wanna help me dig up Ed's corpse and kidnap Morrissey so we can do the 'really big shoo'? Hmm?

  • Is it me or did Moz hire Clinton's campaign manager? 5 nights on CK's show + an extensive tour? What the heck is up? Is this the final gravy train push before retirement? I hope not, but it's not like him is it?

  • I don't remember hearing so much detail and 3rd party opinion on a Moz album prior to release before? That is a shame, I used to like to listen to it myself and make up my own mind.

I guess this is the curse of the internet, anyone with information can share it around easily now. On the other hand, if it wasn't for the internet for the last 7 years, (well this site!)Morrissey would be close to being dead and buried by now!

  • while I'm enjoying the "new-found" attention morrissey is getting in the press, all this lyric leaking is killing me, i wanna find out for myself...still scared about this jerry finn thing and how they are trying to protray a "new morrissey"...jerry finn has produced nothing but crap, and I hope morrissey is just using him for the addded attention, finn's connections in the current music biz, can give him...then I hope the relationship hits that "rocky phase" that morrissey is famous for striking with many folks...I hope all this press hype turns out to be nonsense and under it all, is a classic MOZ return...i'm living in s.e. asia right now, so I'm hoping my mum records the kilbourn shows for me...the nervous inticipation is killing me as I'm moving "five times my average speed", good thing valium and zanax are over the counter over here, so I can make it to May 17th!!

  • That some people are complaining that it's "too much" or whether or not he's actually being taped on 5 different nights or that it should be on Letterman.

There is no show IN THE HISTORY OF TV that would give Morrissey a 5-night residency. It's insane! It's brilliant! I live in Asia -- I wanna die.

I'll be calling in some major favours to friends back home.

I don't care if Kilbourn is not anal about factoids and might bring up a cliche or two -- he's a true fan and is using his show to declare so.
