I don't know if you are aware, but in the most recent Rolling Stone issue (with Outkast on the cover), Andre 3000 explains that the original version of "Hey Ya!" was heavily influenced by the Buzzcocks, the Ramones, and the Smiths. Funny how the biggest song to come out in quite some time (and arguably, the most infectuous) owes its existence to a hip-hop artist in Atlanta opening his mind to some of my favorite bands. I freaked out the first time I heard it, and now I understand why. Those very cool minor chords he strums on the acoustic guitar in the song are straight from the Morrissey/Johnny Marr songbook.

  • Although the rest of the Outkast double album is crap... Hey Ya definetely rings a tone with me. Even the lyrics are a bit "heady" for a Rap artist.... Not the "alright...alright etc.. or the "shake it..." lines but first verse..

    Here's the first 2 verses.......................

    Hey Ya

    [Intro]
    One two three go!

    [Verse One - Andre 3000]
    My baby don't mess around
    Because she loves me so
And this I know fo shooo..
Uh, But does she really wanna
But can't stand to see me
    Walk ou the dooo..
Don't try to fight the feelin'
Because the thought alone is killing me right nooww..
Uh, thank god for mom and dad
    For sticking through together
    'Cause we don't know hooowww...
    UH!

    [Verse Two - Andre 3000]
    You think you've got it
Ohh, you think you've go it
But got it just don't get it
    Till' there's nothing at
    AaaaaaaaAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaallllll..
    We've been together
    Ohh, we've been together
But seperate's always better when there's feelings
    InvooooooOOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOooooooOOOOOlved
If what they say is ('Nothing is forever')
Then what makes, Then what makes, Then what makes
Then what makes, Then what makes LOOVVEEE?
(Love exception) So why you, why you
Why you, why you, why you are we so in denial
When we are not happy heeeerrreeee...
    ...........................................

Interesting Lyrics for a guy like Andre... Ok, so he's no Morrissey, but definetely a far cry from any Ludacris, 50cent or any dumbshit garbage from Britney Spears.

I respect Andre for the leap he took on "Hey Ya" Too bad the rest of the album did not follow that trend.

Great song for the very boring, uninterresting overdone genre he comes from. I like it anyway :)Alright..Alright..Alright..Alright..Alright..Alright..Alright..Alright..Alrigh t..Alright..Alright.
