Mark Nicholson writes:

David Bret's second Morrissey book is set to be published by Robson books (UK) on September 15th 2004 in paperback.

Originally titled "Return To Sanctuary", Bret has renamed the book "Morrissey - Scandal And Passion". In his own words David Bret "lovingly plunges into the annals of Morrissey's personal life far deeper than any other book that has come before" within the pages.

David is also keen to feature personal photographs from the fans as he did with his best-selling "Landscapes Of The Mind" Morrissey biography ten years ago. Any fans interested in submitting photographs for use in the book should contact me at [email protected] and I will pass all details to David.

I thought you might like to know of a new biography which has been written by a close friend of mine, David Bret.

This is his second book on SPM. It is to be published on 15 September, entitled "MORRISSEY - SCANDAL & PASSION" and will be released by Robson Books at £9.99. It contains much previously unpublished material, especially about Morrissey's private life and is sure to be a controversial and absorbing read.

  • i wonder what his equivalent of delving into moz's personal life much deeper than any previous biographer would be.

"rumor has it that morrissey was seen eating a sandwich on his last tour...."

  • can be found in the dictionary under "cobbled together".

Now, who will rush out and buy this despite the angle it takes and the quality of "Barrel Scrapes of the Mind"?

  • I'm really surprised, because I had a hunch that Morrissey was deeply involved in the production of "Landscapes of the Mind" -- sort of ghosting it in the way that Princess Diana fed information to Andrew Morton for his revealing book on Diana.

This sounds like the book that might blow the lid off Morrissey's personal life. On the other hand, do I want to read another book by David Bret? :) It's such a trashy title, too.

  • An other biography about Morrissey? I thought we have one life... I don't think this new one could healp us to learn more about him, except "trashy" things with no importance and no proof like always

  • I've been waiting for a book that 'gets into bed ' with Morrissey, but is this it?
Easy enough to throw a book together based on innuendo and rumor and give it a title like, say, 'Scandal and Passion'!
Given that Morrissey has kept his private life private I wonder who 'talked', anonymous sources?
I hate to judge a book by it's cover though so I admit that I will most likely read this anyway.

  • ...a follow up to possibly the worst Morrissey related book ever written.

The high point will probably be misquoted excerpts from the Janice Long radio interview.

Seriously, a follow up from Johnny Rodent would be more interesting!

  • David Bret - I hope you visit this site and I hope you realise you are not welcome with your trashy little book.

Do not give this man your photos - it's a cheap gimmick because the publishers are too tight to pay for proper pics. They use fan photos and pay hardly anything (if there's any money at all). Don't soil your name by sending this man your negatives.

The scandal is that Bret has the audacity to even pen another book after the AWFUL Landscapes Of The Mind (Potholes Of The Bland more like). And you can guarantee no passion whatsoever.

  • Considering how horrid David Bret's last Morrissey book was (and he's said he plans to write more), someone should have broken his fingers before he could write this upcoming one, especially if it's anything like the one he wrote on/about Rudolph Valentino, and excuse me, but how can you write a supposedly informed work about a subject who's dead, with none of the people who actually knew this individual still being alive to interview (in the case of Valentino)! Not to sound or be homophobic, but after reading Bret's Valentino biography, it seemed Bret was on a mission to claim Valentino as a gay cultural icon, so will he do the same with Moz (though David Bret's apparently married, a closet case, perhaps). Maybe when Moz was at Hollywood Forever to take the photos in Tokion, he was commiserating at Valentino's grave because they've both been exploited by David Bret, Moz twice over now!

  • The only book worth reading next will be from
Morrissey himself. And, I am certain that will happen....

The only book worth reading before is the one with the amazing photographs by Linder.
