Posted by Mr.Improper on the general discussion board (link to online article from Weiß), a picture of Morrissey with Dan Mathews that appeared in the Orange County Weekly (July 25 -31). Morrissey is namedropped in the article, nothing much else. Dan's interview with Morrissey for PETA was published in Sept. 2002 (link).

How the hell did Mr. Improper get something on the main page? No wonder the comments are like they are.

  • ....meat tastes good. I don't have a thing against this guy, PETA, and surely not Morrissey, but I like meat. Everyone is wasting too much energy arguing anything even remotely associated with this topic especially when it comes to about twenty people calling everything "retarded". It just sounds silly. Who really cares. I love animals, but I still turn a blind eye to getting chickenat the supermarket when I'm broke and hungry. I tried being vegetarian for about a year, but it's so much trouble that (surprise, surprise) you would need to have the free time and money of a celebrity in most cases to make it work. In any case, meat tastes good.

  • Dan's the real deal, a man of conviction, willing to get arrested for his cause -- and brilliant at his job -- which is getting attention.

He's also a friend of Chrissie Hynde, Pam Anderson AND Morrissey -- all the Divas a boy should love.

Now if only he'd marry me -- or at least set up high tea with Morrissey.

  • I'm sicking of these hippy clowns from mickey mouse organisations like PETA trying to lecture us - you'd have to be pretty sad to want to spend your life going round trying to give people guilt trips over what they eat.

Human beings are omnivores, it is natural that we eat meat and we always WILL be eating meat. Vegetarianism is just a fad, a relic of the hippy sixties.

    vegetarians always smell bad, anyway.

The one aspect of Morrissey I have always hated is how he is always forcing his vegetarianism down our throats, Meat is not murder, you idiot. have you never heard of the food chain?

  • The world could support more people on vegetarian diets than on omnivorious diets. This simple fact is reason enough to become vegetarian.

Meat-free diets are healthy, inexpensive, keep you from obesity, protect you from cancer, and are more environmentally friendly than other diets. It only makes sense.

Even if you think that animals are unconscious automata, there is still no reason to eat them other than for your own selfish pleasure.

  • ...are angering me, to say the least. Gay Nigger what? And PETA debaters, what the hell is going on?!

I'm not against PETA, I'm actually for many of their causes, but I'm not a preacher for PETA, either. Why can't people just leave things be? I mean, let others be vegetarians, will you? The same goes for the veggieheads -- leave the "carnivores" (even though no human is a carnivore) alone, too; they've got their reasons and their beliefs. I don't understand why folks can't respect others' differences. How immature can you get?

That aside, I think that Morrissey is adorable in the pic. And that's all that really has to be said. G'day. ;)

  • HA HA! What a superb, inane statement! Anonymous's message is a clear example of someone who eats dead animal's but whose brain obviously hasn't had any benefit from it! You are a great example for people NOT to eat meat so thankyou for showing us this. You defeat yourself with your own words. Also, try spelling "eating" correctly!

  • OK, I agree... PeTA is retarded... but, your post wasn't exactly MENSA material, now, was it?!

First of all... protein doesn't cause our brain to grow. In fact, nothing causes our brain to grow except for hydrocephalus... but that's not exactly a good thing.

Second, a vegetarian diet is fully equipped to provide those who choose it to have sufficient protein, with, usually, less fat also.

Usually, people turn to PeTA for ethical advice (although, PeTA is one of the most unethical corporations that come to mind)... The question is... are non-human animals conscious... my answer is "NO"... PeTA's answer is "Of course they are!"...

The problem is... people don't know everything that PeTA stands for... yeah, they don't want people to eat animals... that's a given... they also don't want people to own pets... did you all know that?!... they say it's imprisonment or something... They also don't want people to use animals in laboratory research... but, they don't understand that animals are used more in vitro than in vivo (i.e. things like bovine serum is used more often in research than a live rat is). Another thing, the death of animals in crop culturing is well-known... but PeTA hasn't thought of a cute little cartoon commercial for that yet... so I doubt we'll be hearing about that anytime soon.

Whoever actually cares, should have a look at this... although it's very tongue-in-cheek... it does offer references... and a rebuttal by PeTA!
