Not sure if this has been reported before or not but here's what the ad says:

"The Trustee in Bankruptcy of Andrew Michael Rourke (formerly of "The Smiths") wishes to sell Mr Rourke's royalty stream. Any interested party should contact Joey Byrne, Turner Parkinson, Solicitors, Hollins Chambers, 64a Bridge Street, Manchester M3 3BA."

  • Fan of his or not. I feel none of the Smiths should be in a situation where they are classified as bankcrupt.

  • Is he or has he filed for bankruptcy?

That is terribly sad, if it is true.

I cannot imagine a musician of his calibre filing for bankruptcy; it must be humiliating.

OR- is it a journalistic prank, hoax, or humour-item?

    I hope not.

    Love,

  • ...any of you remember that this geezer has a passion for booze and drugs?? So brilliant musician or not, most people don't get declared bankrupt based on bad luck. If he's really such a fine musician, he should have been able to make a fair living from his instrumental skills and past fame anyway. Is Mike Joyce bankrupt? No. Craig Cannon? No. Or infact, how many musicians from dead and gone bands do you know who got declared bankrupt? Can't be more than a handful.... If you quit a band, you move on, live from your music, and if you can't, get a job for God's sake!

So no, no sympathy for Andy Rourke, sorry.

        I can't, but I think I know what you're on about.

I'll just say it again then: I didn't say anything against Rourke's musical skills, he's a fine bass player and the main reason why Hand in Glove is my favourite song is the bassline. And that's just one example of many.

My critisism goes towards his lifestyle and character. Period.

  • Andy is currently bass player in Badly Drawn Boy's band and has appeared on TV with them recently. Could it be that his creditors are still out there and it's his BDB royaltys they are after now? I can't imagine his Smiths royaltys would be worth that much considering he hasn't been seeking the payout Joyce has and he didn't write any of the songs. If it's true he hasn't recieved his royaltys from the solo years there could be another court case on the horizon. PS What is it with these lowlifes saying he couldn't play bass and doesn't deserve sympathy? Four Words: BARBARISM BEGINS AT HOME!! Are you deaf?

  • Hello,
Could someone in the UK provide me with a number to telephone these solicitors? Is there a way to look it up online? I couldn't find a way. I am very interested and would like to pursue the details before this is sold to someone else. This would be a serious inquiry.

  • As sad as it is, i think he only has himself to blame. He pursued THAT court case for so long, mentally and financially that if he hadn't have won, he'd have been ruined. ok he won,but anybody with a bit of common sense realised he wouldnt get a penny while morrissey was living in mexico!(i did!). He's currently with one of britains top selling acts (Again),so must have fucked up somewhere along the lines to be this skint.( i wander what wage percentage hes on this time!- put it this way, it wont be 25%)

  • Andy is undoubtedly a talented musician, Barbarism Begins at Home anyone? Also the outro of What Difference Does It Make. Whilst Marr gets all the credit for writing the songs, anyonewith half brain can tell that Rourke and indeed Joyce deserve some credit. But it does make you wonder... if he was involved with one of Britains premier outfits, and is now playing with Badly Drawn Boy how can he be so skint?

I know he can have been with BDB that long because about 8 months ago a friend of mine was auditioning for bass player in a band and they said that Andy had been along, but weren't sure about him. Makes you wonder about his lifestyle then? But is that any of our business? This is morrissey-solo, not andyrourke-solo.

    Good luck to the guy

  • Poor Andy. I don't think anybody should be in his position. I met him in 2001 and he asked me for the fag machine, so I gave him one of mine! He signed some album sleeves and we chatted for a bit. He's a nice guy, and I feel really sorry for him.
