There is also currently a vote at the BBC6 Music site for the aforementioned "Ultimate Smiths Fan" contest. The two finalists will be invited to the birthday party according to the article in the Independent. And finally, zoxil sends the mention of the Liz Kershaw live broadcast (May 16, 1-4pm) at the Salford Lads Club news page. On the site is an interesting archived article, Stay away from us, club tells pop pests. The site seems to have some accuracy problems with the dates as evidenced in the two links.

Don't believe Moz or Marr will turn up- can you really see them attending a Smiths party?- but I'm definately going down, only about 10 miles from where I live, wonder if this event is open to the public? If not I'm still going to go and shake Joycey and Tony Wilson's hands.
Why the Buzzcocks though? Their link to the Smiths is tenuous at best.

The article doesn't mention Andy Rourke- is he not invited?

So, errrm, no - I don't think he's gonna show up either. Nice try, Liz, but you must wake up to reality.

Will definately have a bit of that! I Finish college at 11am that day so i'll be down there all day as I only live abut 20 minutes away. Although Morrissey turning up?? Please. It's not gonna happen. Can't see Marr going for it either. I'm sure the drummer will turn up though.

Wonder what all the local thugs will make of a load of Smiths devotees turning up on thier "patch". As you probably know, they ain't too friendly round there. Best remove all valuables from cars then.

What's most hilarious is that the article written in the Salford Lads' Club archive is dated August 2nd, 1983.

I'd be surprised that any Smiths fans were hanging around the club at that time, given that it was only 2 years before 'The Queen Is Dead' with the famous photo was released.

Mike Joyce will be there. Liar. He takes every opportunity to use the name of The Smiths to further his own interests, line his own pockets and try to generate a modest living - Social Security being only a few yards away at any stage, allegedly. I pity him.

It's really sad that Morrissey and Marr have been saddled with years of trouble following the demise of The Smiths. These years should have been a celebration of the music, craft and entertainment they brought into our lives - and never to leave. Instead of that, we have had year upon year of total untruths, rumour and lie's. The entire UK legal system is also left looking like a total joke that it is and Morrissey never really got a fair case at all.

I really believe that Morrissey has produced much stronger works on his own. They sound vocally similiar to the Strangeways tracks, but improved in many areas.

Morrissey and Boz Boorer are a great partnership. They may have strange methods for producing and developing these songs, but rock on boys - we salute you both.

I will be thinking back to the time when Morrissey came into our lives and made them really great again.

  • How is it that any of you can be so delusional about all of this reunion chatter and not just look at the facts. It will be hard for Mr Marr to be in Manchester on May 16th when he has a gig scheduled with his NEW band that very same night in Washington DC at the Black Cat. In my opinion there will indeed someday be a Smiths reunion - however I feel it will be a one off type of event that just happens without any planning. ( I do hope I'm wrong of course).
