Many submitted the news of a record deal with Sanctuary posted on MorrisseyTour.com (now updated). Word from a reliable source close to Morrissey is that nothing has been signed.

  • when I read 'the news' from the 'tourgirlz'.

These 4 lines certainly ruined the good vibes
    I've had past weeks.

Phew I'm beaten, down and out.

    • I know how you feel, but to be honest with all the positive press coverage he's been having recently it's only a matter of time now, you have to give him credit just when it looks like he's done and dusted he comes back stronger, genius!!...but which company will be brave enough??? I wonder....Rough Trade would be nice......but then again whoever! as long as he takes full artistic control, to his credit he would never negotiate with anyone unless this was the case. Which makes this the tricky part you see...the music industry these days likes puppets and good looking simpletons, to quote him 'I'll scrub no one's doorstep, thank you very much'.....too right!

      regards!

      • Totally agree. A small label, he should have full artistic control. He should make the label depend on him, instead of the other way round, just like in the (early) Rough Trade years.

Fortunately, he is also deeply loved and respected. He WILL return!

It makes you look really bad if you post something as big as Morrissey getting a record deal, only to have it not be true. Lets hope it is true, since all of our hopes were put so high. Is there anyone else here who feels the same?

  • but my source is better than his source and it says that a deal was signed on the way over to London with Sanctuary.

    Hope I'm right!

Why would Morrissey talk of not having a single offer from any UK label...if he knew he was on the verge of signing a deal with Sanctuary???

Things do look positive though...three or four months ago may of us where negatively talking about Morrissey's retirement, particularly after many of us received emails from Amazon telling us that the new Morrissey album never was.....the new songs are a statement of intent if nothing else.

Tuesday and Wednesday were the best Morrissey concerts out of the ten I've been to..the only thing that's getting me down now is not having taken a camera (a lack of photos from the show on the net) and having to accept that there probably won't be any more UK dates this year and that I really shouldn't consider trying to get tickets for Paris or Dublin (especially if I want to keep my girlfriend!).

  • What I read was... "no deal has been signed as of yet." I believe the moztourgirls. I honestly think this is going to happen and bet the announcement comes sooner than later. It seems like way to many coincidences with the sanctuary people to not be true. You would have to believe that he thinks they are good enough to do a DVD but not the album. I, for one, don't believe that. As for the super-genious who asked if anyone would believe the moz girls would break the story: who better? they have been at every show for the past five years and are friendly with all the people around moz. I believe it indeed.

OK, so maybe it has not happened yet, but I still firmly believe that it will happen any day now. While we were talking to Alain in San Diego last Sunday, he was saying that a real deal is very close to being worked out and an album hopefully around December. This came straight from his mouth, so I could belive it. And he seemed quite optimistic about it, so to me, it is more tangable than all of the rumours/let-downs we have all heard here over the past couple of years. We will have to be patient and see what happens over the next month or so. I truly feel that if all of the new songs I have heard are any indicator of how the new album might sound, I think that it could be brilliant. And like I have said before, out of all of the dozens of shows I have seen since the first in 91', these on this latest tour have been BY FAR, the best. I think that if they can get this album out soon, it's going to kick all of our asses hard. I really can't wait. Live boots are not gonna keep cutting it for much longer.

  • "The First of the Gang to Die" could be a chart-murdering single! For once a song in 2002 that is pretty and genuine and sincere...we need him to send all those whining, groaning, shitty-pantsed thugs back to the counter positions at Hot Topic and Best Buy and do something more productive than destroying the atmosphere of music!

  • Somewhere on this site someone asked if mozza condones violence and crime as he has a lot of latino gang fans and racist fans.
someone else replied with the lyrics:
"outside the prison gates i love the romance of crime and i wonder does anybody feel the way i do and is evil just something u r or something u do?
    sisiter im a
    sister im a
    all over this town"

Well, this got me thinking about those lyrics, has mozza ever explained them? i mean does he really enjoy crime and find it romantic? does he really condone violence and crime? Cos i certainly dont! i hate it! I am the complete opposite to a violent criminal! does this mean i dont fit in with you lot?!
