Morrissey on "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" tonight

Morrissey is taping "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" for the show tonight (Thursday) with a song to be aired on Friday's show.

Craig Kilborn has been mentioning Morrissey all week on the show, during comedy routines and speaking to guests.

I began recording right after Kilborn announces Morrissey will be on Thursday... here it is:


"Now...I realize that there are people who don't know who the hell Morrissey is, okay?
I just want to give you a little clue as to who he is for those out there - and he's unique! He's a songwriter, he has a haunting voice- Morrissey, we'd like to say, totally reinvented teen angst, okay?
His long breathy phrases sound like they're being sobbed directly into the microphone, okay? He has a broad spectrum of emotions ranging from sad all the way to completly despondant, that's...uh...
Here's another way to describe him for those of you who don't know Morrissey-Morrissey's primal, almost desperate moaning makes me think of the first time I went skydiving naked with the guys from New Order, so...
The best way to describe Morrissey - if James Dean's acting could sing - that's what Morrissey sounds like, okay?
So, we are very very fired up - we are very fired up for that!"

Kilborn later announces this weeks line up -
"...Thursday it's Tom Green, and then Morrissey will be here on Thursday. Friday we've got Ice Cube, we've got Jessica Simpson and then Morrissey's coming back to do another song on Friday."

Kilborn later discusses Morrissey with Snoop Dogg -
Craig - "Have you heard of Morrissey, from The Smiths? Do you know who is?"
Snoop - "Yeah, Yeah."
Craig - "He's good, right?"
Snoop - "Yeah, he's sharp."

    Craig Kilborn is a tool. He's obviously read every cliche comment about Morrissey and really doesn't know who he is. I'd be embarrassed to be on his show.

    Any chance I get to see Morrissey on T.V. is a good thing. I think its great to see Moz get good publicity rather than the old boring opinions everyone seems to have about him and his life. He is larger than life,Yes, but he still needs to make a living doing what hes doing-so any kind of publicity is Great.

  • i tell you,you yanks have it all.id sell my grandmother to see morrissey on tv!!why dont we have anyone over here proclaiming their love for morrissey on national tv???!!goddamit!!!!its just not good enough!!i love that man!!!i feel so cheated that you all get all the coverage!like its ever gonna happen here that we see snoop dogg talk about morrissey!dont get me wrong though,i think its great that he's finally coming into some sort of limelight after a few years,just wish it was over here too.i mean,im only 19,and i get the piss took out of me cos hardly anyone has even heard of him my age!!!!he needs to reinvent himself here!!any other brits feel ever so slightly pissed off?at least il be able to see him in the flesh next week at the albert hall,which is better i suppose.my ticket is closely guarded.

  • I get the impression that Craig and his staff are all Morrissey fans. What is he - in his late 20's / early 30's? He was a teen right at the height of the Smiths, like me. I think he is truly excited about having Moz on the show.

  • Watching a clip from Craiggers last night. His last question to Ben Stein was Morrissey trivia. Hilarious. Ben even knew who Morrissey was! He got the question right BTW.

  • I would like to thank Craig Kilborn for having Morrissey on his show. I haven't seen any other host wanting a guest on a show more than him. Except for Letterman wanting to have Oprah. I believe, he truly is a Morrissey fan and not just doing this for ratings. If that was the case, he'd be asking for Tom Cruise.

    You people should be happy for Morrissey, too. He's the one that wanted to do the show. He could have said, "Craig, you are a crashing bore." But, he didn't. Is it wrong that he's on TV? He's on shows in other countries. He did Saturday Night Live. Is that a bad thing? NO IT'S NOT!!!

    So, for all of you people who think Morrissey is a sellout or that Craig is an opportunist, then don't watch it.

  • That was very surreal to say the least...

    Kilborn may not be the biggest fan but he liked Morrissey enough to "smoke him out" as Moz put it. Morrissey never got such good publicity in North America when he HAD a label. Moz played witty & down to earth very well during the interview and he sang beautifully.

  • Kilborn listens to a lot of jazz now, and Moz didn't care. I didn't either. How about talking about the good old days, and if he cares about Johnny Marr anymore? How about asking about any new releases featuring the song he played? I didn't learn one thing from the interview. Song was solid.
