I was at a bar waiting for a show and a Smiths song came on ("There Is A Light..."). I told my friend about this story I read about the Smiths. Then I thought it would make a good comic strip. So here is my little Smiths comic (it's only 6 panels).

  • Morrissy said in an interview back in the Smiths days that Andy and them had to leave the country cause he got chicken pox. Is this the same story? If so, who's telling the truth?

  • Hi, this is Greg. Thanks for all your comments. Just to let you know, I got all my info for the comic from the article, "Trouble at Mill" in Mojo, April 2001. it says that Rourke after being busted for heroin at his dealer's place was "the only defendant of 25 to avoid jail:he was given a two-year suspended sentence and fined a thousand pounds. He was also re-admitted to the Smiths." Later, the article says..."meanwhile, the group was preparing for a 27- date American tour. It was assumed that Rourke's drug conviction would scupper his chances of a visa — so they drafted in the unlikely Guy Pratt, later to play with Pink Floyd. Rourke taught him his parts. "He had a ponytail," he laughs. " I remember Morrissey saying, 'Sorry, I'm not going on stage with anyone with a ponytail.' So he had all his hair chopped off, bless him. Then my visa came through." it's just a really funny story i thought. it's a great article written by John Harris full of other tidbits..
