I saw this on NME today (Dec. 17):
"The Charlatans Marr Fans' Christmas!" Excerpt:
...The former Smiths guitarist played on three tracks including classic Charlatans songs 'Weirdo' and long standing show closer 'Sproston Green'.

"It's an early Christmas present," Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess said introducing Marr, "Christmas rules."
and I thought of an article I'd read on moz solo... Morrissey "a fool" according to Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) - Aug. 15, 2001.

Thats all, nothing exciting..

  • Granted the comment about Morrissey being "a fool" sealed it for me, but I've always disliked this poor man's Stone Roses ripoff.

Tim Burgess is probably the only musician I hate enough to want to smack in the mouth and if he turns up in Newcastle anytime soon he'll get it, ala Noel Gallagher/Riverside style...

If people like Tim Burgess don't propell Morrissey back into the studio, I don't know what will. Are you still angry about pop music Morrissey? I know I am and it's *alot* worse now than when The Smiths were born.

I am a young, relatively new fan, who has yet to experience the excitement and expectation of a new album release (forgetting the Best Of compilations), so I'm hoping that you are coming back. Having said that, if it's going to be with Boorer an Co, I'd rather you stayed in bed...

  • No more Marr news on the Morrissey-Solo site? Wasn't that posted before?

  • Good for Johnny. His influence has inspired the Charlatans as well as the Stone Roses, so he might as well get some recognition from the fans of those bands.

  • I was at the gig and was absolutely gobsmacked when Johnny Marr came on. I never got to see the Smiths but have seen Mozz 18 times!
It was a real treat seeing Johnny in the flesh for the first time! - even he wasn't playing smiths songs.
Not a massive Charlatans fan but I have the odd album. I only went to wembley cos my mate had a spare ticket and I was in London to see Liverpool play against Chelsea. And er we lost!
Shame Johnny Marr couldnt have made a guest appearance for the Reds when we were three goals down!
His guitar sounded tremendous on "Weirdo" - top stuff. He played with that red guitar - er a Rickenbacker of something? looked like the one he used to play with in The Smiths. (sorry guys not much of a guitar expert!).
