Poppy singer-songwriter Pete Yorn covers "Panic" on his new "Live at the Roxy" CD. He has listed Morrissey and The Smiths as huge influences in the past (both in interviews and in the liner notes of his debut album "musicforthemorningafter") and, although he doesn't mention them by name during the concert, it's a great cover. The CD was released, apparently, only to certain indie music stores. He segues from "Panic" into his single "Life on a Chain." (Catalog information: Columbia CSK 54861.)

Pete Yorn (not a poopy singer) is amazing.
Hes all talent. unlike all the machine based music we're hearing all too often.
anyhow, while in the show in san diego, the venue was intimate so before the show i ran in to see if i could check out the sound check and i did. As i stood there on the side, i noticed they were done so i stood there pin in hand (i got a Smiths badge for him a few days prior) and i called him over to give it to him. Anyway he came over, was stoked i gave him the pin, and wore it on his best track jacket. very cool guy. we talked a lot about music for a few minutes before the show and then after his set we talked for about 15 minutes. (Belle&Sebastian and PULP being on that list of things wetalked about) The guy knows his stuff and was good conversation. He is a huge Morrissey fan and that was really the majority of what we talked about. But either way Pete Yorn is a cool kid and deffinitly needs more props than he gets.
    right on right on.

  • I had a chance to see him @ the Glasshouse a couple of weeks ago. He put on a very good show. He also covered Panic at the show. He said..."that song was about my first love.." after finishing a song and went on to say.."this is about another first love.." and began to play Panic. It was absolutely amazing!

He is a great musician, I've really enjoyed his new album.

  • Can we stop talking about this guy already? I mean, granted, his disc is pretty cool, but we hear about him covering Smiths songs nonstop. I mean, just like the Deftones, once they cover a Smiths song they will most likely do it again. We just don't need to hear about it every time!
