Here is a rather interesting Barenaked Ladies cover of Back To The Old House. If you like their cover of "Still Ill", you'll like this.

  • The Barenaked Ladies suck they don't even sound anything like The Smiths. It's nice to know that they can appreciate the greatest band of all time but they sound like a bunch of local yokells from Canada.

True friends stab you in the front.

  • That song Four Days or Five Days or whatever... a band should be shot for recording a song like that. Then they have the nerve to put it in a car commercial and torture us more. I won't even support them by downloading their mp3.

  • Bands should just stop covering Smiths songs. 99 times out of 100 they are simply awful. People just can't come close to Morrissey's performance. The only ones I sort of like are the Deftones "Please, lease..." and Braid's "There is a light" just because they are totally different from the original versions.

  • It's nice that they covered the Smiths, but that band absolutely sucks! I can't stand comedy rock.

  • I can't beleive out of all the crappy bands in the universe Barenaked Ladies yet again, have to ruin another Smiths song for me. They must be pretty fucking desperate to get record sales. They can't compose any decent music, so they probably feel the need to crap up another fantastic Smiths song. I really wouldn't be surprised to hear it on a car commercial. In fact, you have no idea how incredibly pissed faced I am!

  • Barenaked Ladies once long ago were quite a good group (I'm talking their first two albums here). They were a fat Canadian version of the Housemartins, and as great as that band as well. Lead vocalist Steven Page has stated quite a bit his fondness for The Queen Is Dead. They've also covered "Boy Racer", by the way. It's a shame that Smith covers that are actually great (Im talking Reel Around The Fountain as covered by Suzanne Vega and Belle and Sebastian) don't leak to the net. As far as BNL goes, they've been purely about making money since 1996. Artistic integrity be damned, other than that obnoxious car ad, they also have a new-and yes lame- song in NHL 2002 for the Playstation 2. It's a shame, they used to be really great. You'd never know by listening to this crappy cover though. One this is for certain-it's always interesting hearing other interpretations of Smiths songs.

As some one who lives in Canada and have seen the following the BNL have. I think it's good to see a Canadian Band cover the greatest group ever. It's the biggest compliment a band/singer could have. Whether or not you like their version. I tip my hat to anyone who does a cover with taste. Lets not be so hard on these folks. We know there not The Smiths or will ever compare to Morrissey. But I still say it's nice..... Eh

  • they were once quite a good band. Steven Page has a lovely voice and the comp. album Rock Spectacle is a nice collection of their good stuff...but their last two albums have been mostly sub par stuff with ed robertson singing...his voice is not good...anyway there are a lot worse acts out there.

  • I don't really know anything about The Bare Nacked ladies, so I can't really comment on their music, but I think it's great that they cover Smiths songs. They're a well known group, right? So maybe this will get more people interested in listening to The Smith/Morrissey. I always wanted to do my own version of "Seasick, Yet Still Docked", but I can't seem to hit the high tones, or whatever you'd call it. I'm not a singer, but my voice isn't bad. I can do some songs and sound alright, but not that particular one. Anyway, where I'm from, if I got on stage to sing anything like that the people would all just have this complete blank look on their faces...I can see it now...Well, I needed to laugh about something today, and that was it! ME on stage singing Morrissey songs...hehehehahahahohoho.
