Here is a rather interesting Barenaked Ladies cover of Back To The Old House. If you like their cover of "Still Ill", you'll like this.

That song Four Days or Five Days or whatever... a band should be shot for recording a song like that. Then they have the nerve to put it in a car commercial and torture us more. I won't even support them by downloading their mp3.

Bands should just stop covering Smiths songs. 99 times out of 100 they are simply awful. People just can't come close to Morrissey's performance. The only ones I sort of like are the Deftones "Please, lease..." and Braid's "There is a light" just because they are totally different from the original versions.

they actually used to be quite good (Score:0)
Barenaked Ladies once long ago were quite a good group (I'm talking their first two albums here). They were a fat Canadian version of the Housemartins, and as great as that band as well. Lead vocalist Steven Page has stated quite a bit his fondness for The Queen Is Dead. They've also covered "Boy Racer", by the way. It's a shame that Smith covers that are actually great (Im talking Reel Around The Fountain as covered by Suzanne Vega and Belle and Sebastian) don't leak to the net. As far as BNL goes, they've been purely about making money since 1996. Artistic integrity be damned, other than that obnoxious car ad, they also have a new-and yes lame- song in NHL 2002 for the Playstation 2. It's a shame, they used to be really great. You'd never know by listening to this crappy cover though. One this is for certain-it's always interesting hearing other interpretations of Smiths songs.
