I was browsing at Amazon when I came across this information and thought some of you here at Moz solo might like to know about it. The "Morrissey" book by Pat Reid that was supposed to be published on June 1, 2001 has been delayed. It will now be published on September 6, 2001.

  • Will anyone here purchase a copy of that book?Or do you object to it because of the content that seems to focus on Morrissey`s sexuality?Because Moz is very private about this side of his life(as he has every right to be) and it would seem that it might be an invasion of his privacy.

Morrissey`s music is mainly ambiguous which I`ve always thought was a very attractive feature of his music .The reason being that no gender felt left out and everyone could apply the lyrics to their individual lives?

The reason I believe that people speculate about his sexuality is because of the ambiguous nature of his songs and his choice of Smiths cover stars. And the way he sometimes places the male in the vunerable position(she`s too rough and I`m too delicate) a place usually reserved for females.Morrissey`s music also has a beautiful sensitivity that other rock guys don`t have. And you just don`t see him out or with a significant other or out carousing.

I think Morrissey is very unique and wonderful in the world of pop music(or in any world for that matter). That both genders relate to him and the same for gay and straight alike.Everbody I`m sure has a different opinion about Morrissey .I think people will interpret what Moz says according their lives and what`s relevant to them.Morrissey has himself said that all people have the same needs and that he does not recognize the terms heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. He said those terms only serve to cause people pain and he has no use for them.

I think his sexuality should remain private if that`s how he wants it to be.Whatever it is I will aways think he is wonderful and Beautiful.-Tibby

  • First of all Anonymous and DJ Pekky your very welcome and a hug right back to you.Thank you also for your insightful and kind comments.I`m sure many people here understand that some people don`t want to be labeled and classified and put in to a neat little groups so others can be comfortable. As Anonymous said some people don`t see the people they love as just a gender they see people as individuals .I don`t presume to speak for Morrissey but that seems to be his opinion.I have an interview (the one from Australian radio) were the interviewer asks him about the article in "Rolling Stone" that said he was gay and he replied that he never said that (but also added that he was not embarrassed by the word gay) and it wasn`t really relevant and said people would interpret what he does in their own ways.He also said that he didn`t want to be put in a catagory or to be shoved in a box.

To Anonymous who said that Morrissey was a pioneer for using his music to challenge gender roles and sexual stereotypes and that contribution to humanity deserved a book to be written about it.Let me just say I completely agree with you.If it was a book discussing what Moz contributed to shattering these stereotypes and cliches of the usual pop music scene it might be a interesting read.Because indeed his contribution was enormous in this and other areas.I think Morrissey`s music might have helped a lot of people who never indentified with any other music and made them feel like they were not alone in these feelings.

But on the other hand if it`s going to be a tell all book .It`s going to do a disservice to Morrissey.Because he`s obviously gone through great pains to keep his private life well private. And he has every right to.If he doesn`t want to reveal this about himself I think we should respect that.I think the ambiguous nature of his work just makes him more interesting and mysterious. The Mozzer himself once said "life without ambiguity is boring". "Don`t you agree?"Anyway as I`ve said before I will always love Morrissey no matter what labels make no difference to me.Morrissey and his music are absolutely beautiful and have helped many people who were or are unsure of themselves. And whomever Morrissey loves I just hope he`s happy and I wish him all the best.-Tibby

  • Is that it demands everything to be concrete, complete, "Perfect"; and all questions should be answered that way. This society discourages ambiguity and mystery...

I am attracted to Morrissey (and other artists like Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson, Trent Reznor, Bjork...) precisely because they are enigmatic, each one in their own peculiar way. Morrissey's area is sexuality and gender roles... He trascends them, but this society that wants concrete answers says: "If Morrissey does not answer, we will; he's gay, next subject..." That simple.

Like we said before, we have to have tags because this society demands us to do so... I have to carry with the "Hispanic" tag, for example. It's not that I am not proud to be Hispanic, because I am. But I come from Venezuela, a country where races are so mixed that racism is very rare, but clacissism is not...

I admire Morrissey. Wereheas my equally admired Michael Stipe could not handle with pressures from the media anymore and came out as bisexual, Morrissey has had the guts not to unveil his, no matter which pressure the media and this society has put on him. And it takes guts to do that really.

Society can't stand that everyone can't relate to Morrissey's songs. They want him in a box, with a concrete kind of people only related to him. Actually, some celebrities have followed his example lately... Rossie O'Donnel, Actor Sean Hayes, Writer Mark Simpson, (and even myself in certain pages I collaborate to in the internet; I have my own reasons to do so).

So, I applaud Morrissey for taking the courage to remind mysterious while this society tries to answer the questions about him with conjetures... I hope more people start to follow his example. This society needs to be challenged.

If the book is about this aspect of his sexuality, and not about his sexual preferences (With the conclusion: He's homosexual) I will gladly read it.

    Stay Tuned!

  • What about the Mark Simpson book 'Saint Morrissey'? On his website it still says early 2001. Just curious.
