Morrissey's high UK 2001 press profile continues this month with the new issue of Q magazine. In a critical article about Bob Dylan the journalist (Stuart Maconie) suggests that the idea that Bob Dylan offers more insight into the 'human condition' than Morrissey is nonsense.

In the same issue, there is an article about the (fairly new) band Muse which says: "basking in the sunshine, Matt Bellamy (lead singer) has just sung a portion of the Smiths' song "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" in his soundcheck, and says that Morrissey's lyrics are better than anything he has yet written".

It's ironic, isn't it, that this is the longest period ever without a new Morrissey record and yet his profile (in the UK) is about as high as it's ever been. Come on Steven, sort it out!

  • Yeah, yeah--

Morrissey offers superior insight into The Human Condition,

but Dylan offers tremendous insight into human CONDiTiONiNG

  • Poor (No) tours & no (new) songs, no new albums? How does that equal a high profile? All together, it doesn't ad up.

Perhaps with the dreadfully aweful albums coming out of the UK these days, they have to go back to what was best years ago...

  • I think that the profile of Moz in the UK is getting to the inevitable "what ever happened to?" status that has been previously bestowed upon Sheena Easton and Tracey Ullman. If you aren't around you will simply become a reference point for many journo's and artists.

There is a perfect opportunity to reverse this trend by releasing a record, it's that simple!

I refuse to believe that the last tour was in any way lack-lustre. I saw first hand the swathe it cut through Britain as it rumbled along. It just wasn't followed up with a product which has led to all round confusion.

I completely agree, Steven sort it out!

  • kicking glass, drinking beer, and eating skittles - never with high press coverage.
Simply because Morrissey gets name dropped here and there, it doesn't mean that he has the British media fanning him and feeding him grapes.
It simply means that someone somewhere was thinking of him in passing.

  • And that's why his name is often found on (or is it in?) print here and there, and if the band mentioning him is from the UK, then I suppose it's normal, a question of 2 + 2 = 4, taking into account the fact that most of them were kids or teenagers when Morrissey's media profile was really high.
    No?
