The Smiths singing What Difference Does It Make?

BBC 2. in the U.K. Wednesday (May 30) 6pm.

Steve Wright presented it & made some snide remark about how wearing flowers out of the back of the trousers never caught on. Hmmn Hang the D.J. remember that was aimed at him so I guess it's pay back time.

True friends stab you in the front.
  • Just finished watching this...we didn't get it in Scotland until this afternoon, since they put Star Trek or something on on Wednesday. Tsk. Not a bad show, they also had Depeche Mode (People Are People) and the Pet Shop Boys on (West End Girls).

I was a little annoyed, though, that they chose to show What Difference Does It Make? again, instead of another TOTP appearance. I'm sure the last time I saw the Smiths on the programme it was WDDIM? too. Come to think of it, that must have been round about Johnny's birthday... Interesting that they chose not to recognise Mozzer's birthday in the same way.

Off topic a bit here, but does anybody from Britain remember which children's TV programme they used that wee bit from the Mode's "People Are People" in their theme tune? Some sort of factual or scientific programme I think. It's starting to annoy me thinking about it..

    Reliably devious and truculent.
  • Depeche Mode's 'People Are People' is/was used on the CBBC programme 'It'll Never Work', a programme featuring numerous pointless/useless inventions.

I also remember seeing this same performance of WDDIM on TOTP2 around the time of Johnny's birthday. I think Wright's comments were his attempt at humour, nothing more. As I recall, on that original showing he called the performance 'brilliant' which obviously surprised me at the time. Maybe that's why they showed it again because he liked it so much? Or is that giving him too much benefit of the doubt?
