A fantastic final night at Meltdown (Score:1, Informative)
I missed the support band but arrived at my seat 20 minutes before Morrissey was due to take the stage.
The intro was the imperfect list once again, and the lights dimmed as the air of anticipation built. Perhaps it wasn't quite as exciting as some of the other shows, simply because I've seen him quite a bit recently. In 2002, it was my first opportunity to see him for two or three years and there was some new material in the setlist. This setlist didn't have any great surprises in it, but then this wasn't about surprises or new material, it was the final night at meltdown and the atmosphere was one of celebration more than anything.
Morrissey took to the stage looking dapper in suit and shirt. It was a lilac shirt for those who care, and his dangling flower looked particularly low-slung this evening! The lads arrived and after greeting us, he launched into "Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice" which was absolutely immense. Glam guitars, a nice heavy rhythm section and plenty of rather frisky gestures from Morrissey as he sang "and it can come from the strangest direction.." he also changed the lyric to "someone got stuck in his throat." It's a great, great song. One of his best, and a fantastic opener. You can find "Don't make fun of daddy's voice" on the website www.southpaw.tk for download.
Shakespeare's sister was sung and played very well, and it was a fun singalong for the crowd, many of whom took a few moments to realise what the song was. Many didn't expect it to be in the setlist evidently. "How Can Anybody" was up next, and sounded as good as the recorded version. It was clear the sample says "I told you" spoken in an American voice. It was easy to hear tonight.
The night was fantastic, Morrissey was in beautiful voice, and the band sounded very tight indeed. Also, you'll be pleased to hear that the sound was excellent - let's hope it continues this way so that the rest of the tour is just as great.
Morrissey joked about Dev playing "How Can Anoybody possibly know how I feel" during coronation street, and had a go at Will Young and James Brown. "Will Young.. I know he's an easy target... which is why I target him" "james brown was on TV today.. duetting with " which was followed by a sneer and "the world is full of crashing bores." "Bores" sounded gorgeous with added piano tinkles filling out the sound a little.
Before "there is a light" he introduced the band, and himself "a person of absolutely no importance..."
First of the gang was sung perfectly, note perfect, and the band played some very cool chiming guitars. I loved the "hu hu heys" at the end. It was one of the highlights of the evening, provoking rapturous cheering and Morrissey sounded slightly overwhelmed and pleased, "thank you, thankyou, thankyou.." (snigger)
"Dykes" was also majestic, even better than on record, rubber ring was a dance-along, and "I'm not sorry" sounded surprisingly good, considering it's one of my least favourite on the record. It sounded a little more substantial tonight. "Candle" was one of the less exciting moments, introduced as "this song is about stopping before you've started" - (I don't know either, everyone around me looked bewildered!)
Morrissey also announced that the Dolls singer was the star of Meltdown, to which Julia replied "YOU and he" into Morrissey's microphone. It's certainly a strange thing those two have got going on, isn't it?
Finally, IBEH, which was sublime. It made an excellent finale, and Moz's Jobriath t shirt was thrown into the right hand terrace.
Beautifully sung, perfect sound and the band sounded excellent. Thanks Morrissey and the lads for a great evening.
Roll on Reading.

The ordinary boys were a bit boring tonight, better yesterday. Gene was also better yesterday. Cockney rejects were not my cup of tea and Linder sings out of key. But then again her guitarist managed to play out of key as well, so they were in out of key I suppose : > utter drivel.

I've also filmed 1 minute from "Tere is a light" and 50 seconds from "Every day is like Sunday"
Enjoy!
Let me add one more thing...i wish that this fucking wanker so called security guard will be the next on the guiliotine, i've asked him to bring me the song list page but the bastard refused! What an arsehole!

Julia Stiles was there (Score:1)
Highlights - the singalongs of "There is a Light" and "Everyday", strangely enough people were also really into "I Have Forgiven Jesus".
I agree, "I'm Not Sorry" sounded amazing.
By the way, did anyone else notice the actress Julia Stiles at the gig? Damn pretty lady...

he's regained a lot of confidence since the albert hall.
also last night the band sounded fantastic. this may be treachery, and i'm sorry alain's been ill - but after 2 meltdown shows hearing little barry's light touch i don't miss alain's stodgy guitar sound...

Also he dropped "America" and "Rush and a Push" the second night. Encore on the first night was TIALTNGO, but he changed it for IBEH on the second night which was excellent.
One guy was with his 8-10 year old daughter and they were both extremely agitated and enthusiastic: really cute!!
Stella Mc Cartney was in the audience as well as Michael Bracewell.
Overall I think It was an excellent Meltdown Festival, a very good selection of artists. The Sparks were absolutely amazing!!
